Our aim at Abbey Dance is to introduce children and young adults to a love of dance: teaching and developing artistry, performance, technique, and safe dance practice. We aspire to build confident young people who share our interest and enthusiasm in the performing arts, whether for enjoyment or as a career option.
Abbey Dance was established in 1991 and since that time has grown steadily. It is renowned for its high standard of excellence and exam pass rate.
We offer tuition in ballet, tap, modern, jazz and contemporary. Children are able to take ISTD exams, should they wish to do so. They also have the opportunity to perform in School Shows, which are usually put on every two years. Abbey Dance offers summer schools, as well as various workshops and dance masterclasses throughout the year.
The principal Jane Hendry, has won several national competitions for tap and has worked extensively in the UK and Germany. Both as a choreographer, and soloist, on both stage and television. Abbey Dance has a dedicated team of professionals, holding DBS certification, working with the children to help achieve life goals and build confident young people. As testimony to the quality of tuition available, exam results are always excellent. Pupils have been offered places in major UK dance schools and have successfully auditioned for parts in TV productions.
